BRITISH CURRICULUM

KEY STAGE 1

At FilBrit Homeschool UK – Key Stage 1, we adhere to the national guidelines set forth by the UK government to ensure a high standard of education for our students. These guidelines form the foundation of our curriculum and teaching practices. For more detailed information, you can explore the full guidance below.

In this Key Stage, in the UK system is made up of two years:

  • 5-6 years of age (known as Year 1)
  • 6-7 years of age (known as Year 2)

The same subjects are taught in both years, at different levels:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Design and Technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Art and design
  • Music
  • Physical education (PE), including swimming
  • Computing
Communication and Language

History and geography are usually taught through topics, which combine elements of each subject, and may include other subjects too. For example, UK schools must provide religious education (RE) but because our families come from all over the world, with different requirements and requests, we teach this through topic work.

For tests and assessments, UK schools follow a menu of testing, which often changes each year. FilBrit Training Centre UK homeschool teachers carrying out the same type of testing, but without the expenses of using the UK government’s own tests. We test your child’s ability to read (at least 40 words by the end of Year 1) and English grammar, punctuation, spelling and mathematics, all at the end of Year 2.
